SUMMARY:Kingston Choral Society Concert~ Gloria
DESCRIPTION:Gloria\nMay 11 2024 7:30 PM The Spire\, 82 Sydenham St. \nTickets: $30 (adult / senior) $20 (student) 16 and under free. \n$40 Premium Seating\n& Discounts for Groups Available (Limited) \nThe final concert of the 2023/24 season will be an extraordinary evening of music for lovers of great choral music. Artistic Director Ian Juby will lead the 70-voice choir\, soloists Charlotte Stewart-Juby\, soprano and Colleen Renihan\, mezzo – soprano\, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble made up of musicians from the KSO. \nThe evening begins with Franz Schubert‘s delightful Mass in G Major\, lyric\, tuneful and one of the world’s most popular settings of the “ordinary mass”. \nJosef Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater uses harmonic twists and turns and beautiful melodic lines to transform the sorrow of the Stabat Mater text into a message of comfort\, hope and salvation. From the opening “Stabat Mater dolorosa” to the final “paradisi gloria”\, this music takes listeners on an extraordinary and moving journey. \nIn Johannes Brahms‘ remarkable Geistliches Lied (“Sacred Song”) brilliant musical complexities come together in a work of exceptional and serene beauty\, most notably in the final “Amen”\, surely one of the most beautiful ever composed. \nThe performance culminates with Antonio Vivaldi‘s Gloria in D major RV589\, a classic of the baroque era\, and a work deeply embedded in the choral canon. Leaping octaves\, surprising rhythmic patterns\, the glorious tension created by chordal dissonance\, lively musical dialogue\, passionate emotional lyricism – this most popular of Vivaldi’s choral works has it all! \nAt intermission audience members will have an opportunity to purchase wine or beer to enjoy during the second half of the performance\, thanks to our friends at The Spire. \n(20+) Facebook \nBuy Tickets
