DESCRIPTION:MELODIA Presents \nA Choral Celebration of Kingston Composers​ \nSunday\, May 4th\, 2:30pm \nThe Spire\, 82 Sydenham Street\, Kingston\, ON \nFor the first time ever\, Kingston-connected composers are being honoured with a choral celebration\, to be presented at the Spire in Kingston\, on Sunday\, May 4th\, by the local award-winning choir\, MELODIA.  Come share an afternoon of amazing compositions with very special highlights that include two world premieres: Mark Sirett’s\, “The Mountains Silent”\, and Ben Bolden’s\, “The River”. \nMELODIA is a Kingston and area mixed voice adult chamber choir\, led by Artistic Director\, composer\, and educator\, Stella ter Hart.  The group of 28 members is equally at home singing  a cappella or accompanied music\, and has attracted loyal fans from across the Gananoque and Kingston area. MELODIA is excited to feature the following Kingston-connected composers in their upcoming performance at The Spire: \n\nDavid Adams is a local composer and a founding member of MELODIA\, and regularly contributes his original arrangements of well-loved favourites for the choir to perform.\n Ben Bolden is the UNESCO Chair in Arts and Learning and a professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University. He is an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre\, and his compositions have been performed by a variety of professional and amateur performing ensembles.\nDean Burry\, originally from Newfoundland\, is a professor at the Dan School of Drama and Music at Queen’s University in Kingston. He is the founding Artistic Director of the Watershed Festival – Reimagining Music Theatre\, and one of the world’s leading composers of children’s opera\, with works performed internationally.\nEleanor Daley was born in Barrie\, Ontario\, and lived in Kingston while gaining her degree at Queen’s University. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada\, and is a prolific composer\, organist\, choir director and clinician\, with work performed\, recorded and aired worldwide.\nMartha Hill-Duncan is an award-winning composer\, choral conductor and music educator. Originally from Texas\, she now lives in Kingston. She is a founding member of RED LEAF PIANOWORKS\, a self-publishing composer’s collective\, and the artistic director of SHE SINGS! Women’s Choir.\n Mark Sirett was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in recognition for his work as a conductor\, composer and community leader. He is the Founding Artistic Director of the award-winning Cantabile Choirs of Kingston\, and is frequently in demand as a guest conductor\, clinician\, and adjudicator. Mark’s extensive works have been performed\, recorded and broadcast by leading ensembles worldwide.\nStella ter Hart is a Canadian composer\, educator\, adjudicator\, choral director and accompanist. Born in Saskatchewan\, Stella moved to Ontario to serve as a member of the Toronto Conservatory College of Examiners.
