Ross Cameron

With heavy hearts, the board of directors of The Friends of The Spire is sad to announce that a founding director, Ross Cameron has died.

Word of his death has spread rapidly throughout the Kingston community. Ross’s reach was very broad and his impact significant. Whether it was in the field of education as a teacher and principal, as a skipper, crew or Race Officer sailing out of the Kingston Yacht Club; or as an active member of the Kingston Choral Society – Ross touched the lives of many. He has been honoured by many organizations, including locally as Past Chairman of Cork, been inducted into the Kingston Sports Hall of Fame, as past Commodore and Life Member at KYC and has served as a board member of the Kingston Symphony Association.

Ross came to the Friends of The Spire early in our development and at the same time he was Commodore of the Kingston Yacht Club and President of the Kingston Choral Society. He steered the organization through our incorporation, our charitable status designation, our bylaws, MOU’s with sister organizations and most recently our strategic plan. His enormous contribution will be missed.

After Ross’s successful career as an educator, he poured his soul back into his communities and Kingston will be a poorer city without him.

** Our grateful thanks to Tracie Dixon and the Kingston Yacht Club for allowing us to use excerpts from their published eulogy for Ross.
