This concert celebrates dance music, with popular pieces like Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, Lizst’s Les Préludes, and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, plus Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture. Featuring principal French horn player, Cory van Allen.
Cory van Allen started playing the French horn at age 11, and nobody in the ensuing 61 years has been able to persuade him to give it up. His parents (his dad a concert pianist and his mother a violinist) had hoped that he would develop a reasonable level of musical taste, but Cory stuck stubbornly to the horn. Cory feels privileged to be a member of both Orchestra Kingston and the Kingston Symphony Orchestra. He is delighted to be performing a new work for horn and orchestra, by Canadian composer Jim McGrath, with Orchestra Kingston.
Plus, Orchestra Kingston will feature a new piece called ‘Verve’ by local composer Daniel McConnachie. Come join us for some high-energy music to blow away the February blahs!
