Helen Tufts Child Outreach Program
About Us
The Helen Tufts Child Outreach Program provides opportunities for Queen’s students to volunteer and get involved with children in the Kingston community, some of whom come from varied backgrounds that are disenfranchised from opportunities like this. Queen’s students are paired with a buddy between the ages of 5 and 12 to practice literacy skills and participate in engaging group activities. Helen Tufts volunteers have the opportunity to connect with children in a one-on-one setting, spend time with like-minded students, and gain volunteer experience. This program is FREE for the kids to sign up for and transportation to The Spire is available.
The running of this program is a group effort. Frontier College staff recruits and trains the student volunteers; Queen’s Alma Mater (AMS) provides an annual grant that covers busing costs; and the congregation of Sydenham Street United Church donates gifts of space and volunteer support from their membership.
With considerations of COVID-19, HTCOP is committed to delivering the best program possible, thus appropriate social distance protocols will be implemented.
